OBG is a well established voluntary  group that has operated as a not-for profit organisation for over thirty years. In December 2019 we became a registered Charity.  Our aims are:

  1. To promote, for the public benefit, the conservation and protection of badgers, their setts and habitats in Oxfordshire and elsewhere; and
  2. To advance the education of the public on the ecology, behaviour and protected status of badgers, their setts and habitats
OBG is registered Charity No. 1186850
A Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with voting members.
OBG's Annual reports and formal accounts are available via the Charity Commission Register - our number is 1186850.

Membership and organisation

We currently have four charity Trustees who work with a small committee that usually meets monthly.  Membership is by annual subscription and we encourage all active volunteers to join and take part in the AGM and other events. We organise sett survey walks and provide fieldwork training. We try to organise talks and badger watching events annually.

 

Whether you are a member or not, there are many ways to keep in touch. OBG maintains a mailing list that is free to subscribe with news of local and national interest. We have an active social media presence.

 

Our group is part of the Badger Trust. Part of each OBG members' subscription fee goes to the Trust to help it support the local badger group activities. Our members  are entitled to attend the Badger Trust AGM and events. However we are separate charity organisations and many of "our" members also pay to support the Badger Trust and receive their super member packs.

 

OBG regularly liaises with other badger groups, especially those covering neighbouring areas - badgers don't respect county boundaries.

Sett records and privacy policy

Due to the risk of wildlife crime, information on the location of badger setts and badger activity is considered highly confidential.   OBG will only ever disclose information for authorised, professional reasons for the benefit of badgers.

Enquiries from ecologists and other professionals are welcome. Please contact our sett/ RTA records officer with details of the purpose and area of search requested.

Note that OBG will charge a fee to cover costs of providing the information.
